AI brand monitoring: what AI tells buyers about you
A buyer can now ask Google or ChatGPT whether your business is any good and read the answer instead of your website. WhatsMyRep reads the Google AI Overview for your name every day and asks ChatGPT and Gemini the buyer’s question every week, several times, because one answer proves nothing.

What you get
Measured the way AI answers behave: as a share of runs, not a position.
Google AI Overview, daily
For “your name reviews” and “is your name legit” in your country, when Google shows an Overview: its text, the sources it cites, and its tone.
ChatGPT and Gemini, weekly
The same buyer’s question to each model 3 times: in how many runs it knows your business, what it praises and what it warns about.
Presence and tone
“Knows you in 2 of 3 runs, tone neutral” instead of a made-up “position 3 in ChatGPT”.
An alert when AI turns negative
If the AI Overview or a model answer becomes negative about you, it is a change with a risk score, sent to your channels.
The sources behind the answer
The pages the AI Overview links to are usually the same review and complaint pages in your results. You see both in one report.
The rest of the picture
Google results, Google and Bing suggestions and review ratings, because AI answers are built from what the web already says about you.
A real check, not a mock-up
From the sample report: what the models said, as the check returned it.
A real, unedited free check of a well-known business. Your report has the same parts for your name and your country.
How it works
1Enter your business
Name or website and country. The AI question is asked as a customer from that country.
2We ask, several times
Google AI Overview from live results; ChatGPT and Gemini 3 runs each, through their APIs.
3Read presence and tone
In how many runs each model knows you, the tone, the risk, and an example answer.
Why one AI answer proves nothing
Ask ChatGPT the same question twice and you will often get two different answers. For reputation that matters: one run may describe you as “well reviewed”, the next may lead with an old complaint.
In January 2026 SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai asked 600 volunteers to run 12 prompts through ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s AI, 2,961 times in total. Their headline: there is a less than 1 in 100 chance that ChatGPT or Google’s AI gives the same list of brands in any two responses, and about 1 in 1,000 that two lists come in the same order. The authors wrote that “any tool that gives a ‘ranking position in AI’ is full of baloney”, and that the share of runs in which a brand appears is probably a reasonable metric.
That is how WhatsMyRep reports AI answers: each model is asked 3 times, and you see in how many runs it knows your business, the overall tone, the risk, and one example answer.
AI Overviews for your name, not for a thousand keywords
“AI Overview tracking” usually means an SEO tool that checks whether your website is cited in AI Overviews across many topic searches. That is useful for content teams. It is a different question from the one a small business owner asks: when someone searches for our name, what does the box at the top say?
WhatsMyRep reads the AI Overview for your name with “reviews” and for “is your name legit”, in your country, every day. You get the text, the sources it links to, and a tone and risk score. When the Overview cites a complaint page, that page is usually in your results too, with its own score.
What shapes the answer
Google’s documentation for site owners says there are “no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary”, and that site owners should apply the same SEO basics as for Search. The answer draws on pages Google already has, found through several related searches at once (Google calls this “query fan-out”).
Ahrefs studied 75,000 brands in 2025 and found that branded web mentions had the strongest correlation with how often a brand appeared in AI Overviews (0.664), far ahead of backlinks (0.218). The authors are careful to say that correlation is not causation. Still, it points the same way: what people write about you around the web is what AI repeats.
You do not need special “AI files”. You need to know which pages the answer leans on, deal with the ones that are wrong or unfair, and keep earning honest reviews and mentions. More in What AI Overviews and ChatGPT say about your business.
What we do not do
Limits we would rather say out loud.
Research by SparkToro found the same list of brands in fewer than 1 in 100 runs. A position number would be noise.
We track what AI says about your business by name. SEO tools that track your site across hundreds of topic prompts do a different job.
Today: Google AI Overview, ChatGPT and Gemini. Not Perplexity, Claude, Copilot or Google AI Mode yet.
Google says there are no extra requirements or special optimisations to appear in AI Overviews. We show the answer; fixing the sources is up to you.

Questions, answered
How we measure AI answers, and what the numbers mean.
What is an AI visibility tool?
A tool that checks whether and how AI assistants mention a brand. Some track a website across hundreds of topic prompts for SEO. WhatsMyRep does the reputation side: what Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini say when a buyer asks about your business by name.
Why not show my position in ChatGPT?
Because AI answers change from run to run. In SparkToro’s January 2026 study, ChatGPT and Google’s AI gave the same list of brands in fewer than 1 in 100 runs. The researchers concluded that the share of runs where a brand appears is probably a reasonable metric and a ranking position is not. That is what we show.
Which question do you ask the models?
As a customer in your country: what do you know about this business, is it reputable, what do people praise and what do they complain about. The same question every week, 3 runs per model.
Do the models search the web when you ask?
No. We ask ChatGPT and Gemini through their APIs without browsing, so the answer shows what the model itself has learned about you. The Google AI Overview comes from live Google results and does cite sources.
How often is AI checked?
The Google AI Overview every day with the rest of the check. ChatGPT and Gemini once every 7 days, because their answers change slowly.
How can I change what AI says about me?
AI answers are built from what the web already says: reviews, complaint pages, news, your own site. Fix the sources the Overview cites, answer real complaints, and keep your own pages accurate. Google says no special markup or files are needed to appear in AI features.
